Gifted and Talented

Hillcrest Christian College is committed to providing opportunities for its students that are commensurate to their needs. The College formally commenced its academic gifted program in 2003, with the introduction of its ECHO program, and appointment of a gifted education coordinator. Since then, Hillcrest’s gifted program has expanded to include full-time gifted classes for students in Years 2-9. The College is developing its gifted program in the Senior Secondary School, through the use of subject acceleration, excellence programs and advanced placement in university subjects.Staff commissioned to work with gifted children at the College are passionate about working with gifted children. They are required to receive specialist training, through the University of NSW GERRIC program: The Certificate of Gifted Education, or equivalent. Staff also work with specialty personnel to ensure programs are effective and adequate. These personnel include psychologists, consultants, university staff and other experienced educators.
