Senior Secondary (11-12)

Years 11 and 12

Students choosing to continue their studies into Years 11 and 12 have two options:

•  Choose to study six Qld Studies Authority (QSA) subjects. The aim is to achieve an OP (Overall Position) with the intention of enrolling in a tertiary course through QTAC (Qld Tertiary Administration Centre).

•  Choose a combination of Authority subjects and Vocational Education courses. By choosing this combination, students may elect to go onto further study at a Tertiary level (University or TAFE) through gaining a Tertiary Entrance Ranking,  take on an apprenticeship or move directly into the workforce.

School Based Traineeships are also available to all students at Senior Secondary level. This enables students to undertake training and paid work in their chosen career field whilst still completing their Senior Statement at school.  Please note that a traineeship established in Year 12 may not be completed by the end of the year.

Typically, to ensure a QCE (Qld Certificate of Education) is achieved, a student in Year 11 or 12 will study at least 5 subjects (The two core subjects and three of the electives), but preferably 6 subjects. In addition all subjects must be completed to a minimum of a Sound level of Achievement.
