The Hillcrest Dance Academy was started in 2008 with a small number of pioneering students and has quickly expanded to accommodate for over 100 students with 17 classes running through out the week. It is so exciting to see how far the students have come in both confidence and technique over this time.

Students learn choreography and work on performance skills which gives them the opportunity to expand their abilities, skills, confidence and relationships with peers. By taking dance classes children learn to work in groups, work by themselves, musicality, discipline, proper posture, alignment and awareness of their bodies, these are just some of the benefits of dance.

Students gain confidence in themselves not only physically, but mentally as well. Dance classes create an opportunity for children to excel outside the normal academic classroom.

In 2009 Hillcrest Dance Academy students participated in a number of dance productions. They preformed in Term 1 at the All school assembly , Term 2 in the Dance Showcase- Broadway night , Term 3 in the school fete and in Term 4 “Dance Fusion” the end of year concert. Students have a sense of accomplishment as they display the skills they have gained and have friends, family and the community see them perform. As we started in 2008 with only Jazz and Hip Hop we are so excited to now be able to offer Ballet, Musical Theatre & Contemporary. The Dance Academy currently offers classes in the following genres & age groups.

Jazz- Kindy, Prep, Yr 1, Yr 2-4, Yr 5-7
Ballet- Kindy, Prep, Yr 1-2, Yr 3-4, Yr 5-7
Hip Hop Yr 2-4, Yr 5-8
Musical Theatre- Yr 1-3, Yr 4-6, Yr 7 & Up
Contemporary Yr 3-5

We are currently taking expressions of interest for Slow Modern (Yr 7 & Up) and Tap (Open Age) which we plan to have available in Term 3 or 4 of 2010.  We realize some children may not be suited to, or would like to learn other styles of dance that the academy currently does not have available. We would like to give parents the opportunity to make suggestions, as we believe every student should have the opportunity to fulfil thier passion and thier dreams.

Required Dance Attire for Classes are as follows:

Ballet & Contemporary- Black or Navy exam leotard, pink ballet tights and full sole canvas or leather pink ballet shoes
Jazz & Musical Theatre- Black or Navy exam leotard, exercise or ¾ shorts, jazz slip on shoes, optional singlet
Hip Hop- Casual clothing at own discretion which must be appropriate.
Please ensure your child comes to each class prepared as this is the responsibility of both student and the parent. Students are to have the correct dance attire after 2 weeks of enrolling.

Cost is $10 per class and paid each term. If a child is enrolled in more than one class (with the exception that one class is Ballet) fees will be discounted to $8 per class.

For an Enrolment form CLICK HERE please read the terms and conditions and return the signed form to the Accounts Department along with the fees prior to the class. We do encourage students to be enrolled prior to the Year or Term but do make exceptions where necessary. Taking enrolments later in the term can make it difficult on the students as they will have missed out on previous weeks of teaching and may find it difficult to catch up.

END OF YEAR CONCERTS – Please note: we will now be running two performances Thursday 11 and Friday 12 November

Tickets for the Dance Academy’s end of year concert are NOW available to purchase.
The concerts will be held in the MPC Theatre on Thursday 11 November and Friday 12 November at 5:30pm and finish at approximately 7pm.

All proceeds made will go back into the Academy to pay for props, costumes and preparation for the concerts.
