Instrumental
Learning an instrument is a wonderful experience for a student. It gives them short-term goals to strive for, develops their creativity and provides an avenue to express themselves through music. It is a well known fact that involvement in music through learning a musical instrument helps students to perform better in all other areas of education (academic, social etc).
Hillcrest has a developing instrumental program which we continue to invest into each year. All students in Year 4 are given the opportunity to learn a string instrument in the immersion program, separate to their normal music curriculum class. This music immersion program is of significant value as these young students develop their musical ear. The cost of tuition in this string program is fully funded by the college, the only minimal cost to parents being the hire of the string instrument ($60 per term).
The College continues to invest into students in Year 5, providing them all the opportunity to learn a band instrument in the Year 5 band program. This program broadens the opportunity for students allowing them to select a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument to focus on. Again, this program is fully funded by the college the only minimal cost to parents being the hire of the band instrument ($60 per term).
There are various instrumental ensembles that rehearse each week within the College. They include the following:
• Primary string ensemble
• Secondary wind ensemble
